On the Downhill Side
These two oils were Kathy's favorite oils of all that I painted. Since she loved birds, and chickadees in particular, I painted the chickadee on the left and surprised her with it for a special Christmas gift about 12 years ago. The mountain scene was done at another time and, though not particularly for her, since she liked it very much we kept it also. So this is my Christmas picture and one of my Christmas memories.

Today is my birthday. I am celebrating 80 years. (I thought Christmas Day was a bad time for a birthday when I was a kid! Only one celebration a year...my brothers and sister had two!)

THese are beautiful Bill! You are so wonderfully talented, reminds me of the art work my father-in-law used to paint. HAve a wonderful birthday, I hope I am as active as you when I turn 80. As you got older it probably didn't matter as much, that is, sharing your birthday with Jesus. Harrison's is next week ( New Year's baby) and Christopher's is on Saturday. So we have 2 within a week of Christmas, it is a little difficult for present buying when they are younger. HAve a wonderful day! Much love to you and your family!

@Denise: What can I say Denise? You have been so steadfast in your support, someone I have come to admire as a person, a mother and a photographer!
It pleases me immensely that you like the paintings. When I first started painting my philosophy was that I like it and I enjoyed the act of creating it and it doesn't matter whether anyone else likes it or not. But the fact of the matter is that when someone else likes or enjoys what you have created, it is a definite PLUS and it is a a rewarding experience.
You are right... as I aged the paucity of celebrations didn't matter in the least! Rather it became more an honor than a burden.
May God Richly Bless Your Home and Your Family in the Coming Years! Merry Christmas!

Hey Bill. A big hearty congratulations to you my friend on your 80th birthday! What a marvellous achievement mate. What's more marvellous is that while I don't know you and your son (who I found out while surfing the "community" thumbnails) has wished you a happy birthday with a great photo of you in action. I aspire to be like this myself. I have 7 children and I got to see them all in one place yesterday (25th) for 3 hours on my own. If I get to 80 I hope I am like you !! I am so glad you were able to be with all of your children at least for a time over this holiday. It has gotten in this day and age the norm for families to be rather widely separated one from another.

Happy Birthday, Bill!!! Christmas Day is my daughter's birthday as well. I always tell her that even though she only gets one day a year, only the special people get to be born on Christmas Day. Lovely paintings, BTW.

@Steve Rice: Thank you very much Steve! Yes, I had a wonderful Christmas and birthday. Did so well in the gift department that I told my kids that I believe I will schedule another 80th sometime in late January... give them time to do MORE shopping!

I had no idea you have such talent - beautiful painting! Amazing work. Our favourite bird is a chickadee too. My girls love to hand-feed them (I have a photo or two of that on my photoblog).
